SUMMARY:MSACL Course Imaging 101: Clinical Studies using Imaging Mass Spectrometry
DESCRIPTION:\nOn Behalf of the Association for Mass Spectrometry & Advances to the Clinical Lab (https://www.msacl.org/):\nWe are very interested in making sure everyone who is interested can attend this course, so we’re making it FREE.\nThis 2-day course (3.5 hrs / day) has NO FEE and has been time-scheduled to appeal to a GLOBAL audience, unless you’re in Australia or New Zealand (sorry!).\nThis course is TARGETED to CLINICIANS, SURGEONS, PATHOLOGISTS and MASS SPECTROMETRISTS, who are interested in clinical applications of Imaging MS, to prepare for future technological advancements in tissue analysis.\nPre-registration is REQUIRED (see link below) and will be limited.\nDecember 3-4, 2020\nImaging 101 : Clinical Studies using Imaging Mass Spectrometry\nhttps://www.msacl.org?header=Connect&tab=Upcoming#123\nOver the past two decades we have seen considerable scientific and technological advancements in imaging mass spectrometry (IMS), as these approaches continue to be implemented in research and industry. There has, however, been limited adoption of these techniques into the clinical arena, in part due to gaps between the mass spectrometrists developing these tools, and the clinical stakeholders, such as surgeons and pathologists, who may one day use them in their practices.\nThe goal of this course is to bridge these gaps by (1) providing an overview of the principles, strengths, limitations and applications of IMS techniques, such as MALDI-IMS and ambient mass spectrometry (AMS), and (2) offering insight into clinical workflows and potential opportunities for applications. The target audiences include both clinicians, surgeons, and pathologists interested in learning more about IMS applications as well as mass spectrometrists interested in clinical applications of IMS. The first day will focus on MALDI IMS, while the second day will cover ambient MS.\n+++++++++++++\nThursday December 3 (Pacific Time, Los Angeles)\n7:00 – 8:10am\nClinical tissue analysis: overview of workflows and diagnostic ‘blind spots’\n8:20 – 9:30am\nIntroduction to MALDI IMS\n9:40-10:50am\nAdvancements and applications using MALDI IMS\n+++++++++++++\nFriday December 4 (Pacific Time, Los Angeles)\n7:00 – 8:10am\nIntroduction to ambient MS\n8:20 – 9:30am\nAdvancements and applications using AMS\n9:40-10:50am\nBringing IMS into the clinic: opportunities and challenges\n+++++++++++++\nMSACL thanks our Platinum Sponsors, Golden West Diagnostics and Brian Kelly, for their generous contributions that are supporting the provision of educational content to the community through the Connect platform.\n\n
