Plant Lipids

The Interest Group Plant Lipids aims to create a platform for discussing and exchanging materials and methods related to mass spectrometry-based analysis of plant lipids. This field faces inherent challenges due to the vast diversity of plant lipids and significant variability in lipid composition, not only across different plant species but also within various tissues and organelles of the same plant. Through lipidomics, our goal is to gain deeper insights into the regulation of these diverse lipid profiles and their roles in plant function and adaptation.

One of our objectives is to reach a consensus on the lipidome of model organisms like Arabidopsis thaliana and major staple crops such as barley (Hordeum vulgare) and wheat (Triticum aestivum).

Additionally, recognizing the limited availability of suitable internal standards for plant lipid quantification, we aim to compile a comprehensive overview of the standards currently used in laboratories conducting plant lipidomics research.

We are also exploring the possibility of establishing a platform for exchanging internal standards or protocols for their synthesis. Our ultimate aim is to collaborate with other research groups to consolidate these results, facilitating meaningful comparisons and advancing our collective understanding of plant lipid metabolism.
